Updated again (finally). Uni's been busy so I haven't had that much time for this lately. If you're in Melbourne, my advice is still to get your ass out to see the following bands and go to the following clubs:

Bands:

Biscuit - Their live show still kicks ass, get along and see 'em whenever you can.

Bobkat - Didn't get to see them at black stump, but I have it on good authority that they played a damn fine set. Look for an album of some description soon

28 Days - OK, so they're in no way unknown, but see them whenever you can, their live show goes off. It's just so damn tight!
Clubs:

Krank - Fridays @ Level 1, 68 Little Collins Street, Melbourne

Their opening night went off, here's hoping for many more. Now with extra grunge and alternative level too!

Goo - Thursdays @ Metro, 20 Bourke Street, Melbourne

Goes off hard on a Thursday night, if you're willing to endure a few crap techno "songs". But hell, it's worth it just for the cheap drinks... can't wait for the 4th birthday party either!

Subculture - Saturdays @ CBD, 14 McKillop Street, Melbourne

Goes off just as hard if not harder. The music's a little more focused on the heavy and industrial stuff, and even the techno they play is bearable.

Hmm, while i'm at it, here's some places NOT to go and people NOT to see..

Bands:

Fallopian Tube - Ear bleedingly loud, but that's not always a good thing. Trust me, it's just mindless noise and people trying to go off out of time.

Raped By Noise - What can I say? Guys, when Sonic Youth did the whole feedback with foreign objects beating the crap out of their guitars thing, it was cool because they did it in the middle of songs. Just stealing that one bit isn't good, it's crap. Give up now.

Clubs:

QBH - Whatever Night

Dammit, somebody stole Goo's title as the biggest club in the southern hemisphere! Oh well, somewhere else not to go i guess...

Twister - Saturdays @ Palace

Yet to go there, and if all goes well i'll never go there, but I'm sick of hearing about this place! Going should never get further than the bad joke stage.

Home - Darling Harbour, Sydney

Just got back from Sydney, and have been told not to bother with this. Strict dress code AND $20 entry? You've got to be joking... though all the music I heard from outside sucked too.

Finally, for those outside of Melbourne, here's some other stuff (mostly international) that I'm enjoying listening to at the moment:

Pennywise - The new album's different, yet still good, and still giving the same message
Orgy - Just about anything by them, it's all good in it's own way
Fear Factory - Cars and everything is cool, but it's great to listen to just to hear what Slipknot are ripping off
Royal Crown Revue - I think it's the sax player in me that likes this
